Protector, Companion, Loyal Friend - We Miss You
Rufus & Samantha
I never saw a "girl" or a puppy that didn't like Rufus...they
would get in line to give him kisses.  The male corgis didn't
particularly like him, but he just gave them a shoulder and
haughtily ignored them.  He knew he was #1!
Willing to wait his turn and let the "ladies" go first for treats!
Rufus and Sally Mae, my first
yorkie house pet.  She
would follow Rufus around
when she was outside.  They
are now playing and laying
in the grass together, on this
side of "Rainbow Bridge" as
well as other faithful friends
that have left us.
Always on "watch"
Rufus rarely barked, but when he did, we knew something was wrong and
we had better check it out...he saved a couple of horses for us...one mare
would occasionally roll in her stall and get cast against the wall...Rufus
would bark until we came out.  Another time, a pony got her halter caught on the fence and he
barked until we came out and cut the halter off.
Rufus always minded David better, but
he was "my dog".  When I was working
in the kennel at night, he would not go
in the house until I did.  Sometimes, on nice
summer nights, I would go over and sit in the
swing by the grove and he would lay near by,
with his head up,
watching.
Once, I was gone overnight, and David
did the horsechores and Rufus sat by
the kennel door.  He tried to get him to
come in the house, but Ruf just sat
there to wait for me.
I remember one time David was leading a stallion across the
yard when the kids were small...the horse started acting up, and although they were a safe distance away,  Rufus went
over and stood between the kids and the horse and barked at him.
We have so many memories of this good friend.  Thank you for your
thoughts and the many nice emails expressing sympathy.  I know that
everyone who has loved a dog can relate to our loss.

David goes to Honduras on Missions trips.  The first time
he went, I went up to bed and Rufus, who never went in our upstairs,
got up and followed me to the bedroom and
slept beside my bed every night that David was gone.
He loved the grandkids and was
very protective of them
